While culture in Europe is generally regarded as a national or even regional issue, there are a number of initiatives which try to assemble and connect European cultural organisations and creators. There is also the concept of the "European Capitals of Culture" , focussing on culturally important European cities.
Here a currently quite short list of cultural projects with a pan-European outlook:
The European Review of Books is both a printed magazine and a (partially fee based) web site covering current European literature.
Eurozine is both a network of European cultural journals and an online journal by itself, offering articles and essays from its partner journals translated into one of the major European languages. In this way, it can be seen as a cultural sister project of Voxeurop.
For each year, a small number of European Capitals of Culture are selected, often representing less-visited parts of Europe. The selected cities and towns receive funds to develop cultural programs taking place in that year, and also for investments in their infrastructure of which they permanently profit.
Prix Europa is a pan-European media festival founded in 1987. It takes place annually in Berlin.
The Eurovision Song Contest is the most popular song contest in Europe, with participants from all parts of Europe, not only the EU, and in some cases extending to other regions and continents. Some participants of this contest are still remembered decades after they took the stage.
The internet radio station Twentysound is not a purely Eurocentric project, playing contemporary classical music from all over the world. But due to the high number of distinct European musical cultures, it has a clearly European focus, especially with its daily 4 hours "Musical Regions" program .
